Dean Rudland first started working in the music industry in the early 90s at Acid Jazz, where he became general manager, working with Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies and the James Taylor Quartet. He developed both the label and its 'Totally Wired' compilation series into globally recognised brands.
At the same time he helped put together EMI's 'Blue Series' of Blue Note jazz compilations, including the best selling Blue Break Beats series, which was the first legally licensed collection of tracks sampled by hip hop artists.
Since leaving Acid Jazz in the mid 90s Dean has become one of the UK's leading deep catalogue experts. Working for Ace, EMI and V2, he helps them to identify the music they should release from their vast catalogues of soul, jazz, funk and rock.
At EMI he put together highly successful anthologies by David Axelrod and Minnie Riperton, and also helped them relaunch their iconic Stateside label. At Ace he revitalised the previously languishing BGP imprint with a series of compilations including 'Super Breaks', 'Super Funk' and 'Living In The Streets'.
He is also responsible for researching and purchasing American catalogues from the 60s and 70s - he recently consulted to V2, and advised on their aquisition of the Fania Latin and Salsa catalogue.
